#1

I would like to invite the viewer into the coolness of night--fabricated endless night illuminated by glitzy indulgent nonsense--a sickeningly dreamlike eternal night realm lit by the florescence of Yin, inspired by the natural light of Yang, her other half; empty symbols float about, as they are nothing without the light of day and it’s opinion-drenched inhabitants. By moonlight, the histories, attachments, and associations of the emblems are wrung out, and dance scornfully around the fire of reality; the workings of Yang. They descend to this nocturnal world where they are subject to an existence equal to charmingly tacky beads on consume jewelry. However, they are saved. The auras of these symbols are activated by icons in this narcissistic “World of Yin” where the familiar; the true; the icons with which I’ve related; dwell eternally as diamonds in the rough.

Continuation and Shift

It's time for reflection--I need some kind of segway but in looking for one I forgot to give attention to the concepts I was departing from. The concepts, not materials. My concept is about feminism, that's how I filter things, it's how I realize and then hide it. In burying it, I uncover it's true intention. Right now, theme images in my paintings should translate well in sculpture form, maybe to uncover it's true meanings.

Nights in White Satin

Nothing to do with sex or politics--this is more of an escape-piece. These happen frequently; I believe in reaction to the heaviness of other work...

In efforts of having my artist’s statement fully mirror my thoughts and figuring out what each piece means to me (what I am saying honestly to the public) I document my thoughts and let a title come to mind intuitively to sculpt underlying elements of a work. My thoughts twist and run back and forth between issues of sex (commenting freely on the details of life as a female) and also issues dealing with the economy and my reactions to how it effects those around me.
